We are currently hiring for the following positions:

LEED Program Administrator – Virginia Beach, VA

We have an entry level opening in our sustainable construction group to assist in the administration of our Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Program. The successful candidate will preferably currently reside within the Hampton Roads commuting area, be a recent graduate with a degree in architecture or construction management, have some construction administration experience or have worked with a construction management firm and have the LEED Accredited Professional (AP) certification in Building Design and Construction (BD+C). Some of the ancillary duties will be creating and tracking a variety of logs such as deficiency, access control, power, door schedules, finish schedules, room numbers, and others as necessary. The perfect candidate would have more of an interest in the construction management and administration aspects of architecture in lieu of design.  S. B. Proposal Writer/Coordinator - Virginia Beach, VA

We are seeking an experienced Proposal Writer/Coordinator.  The successful candidate must have technical background/understanding of construction and program/project management and have ability to personally generate/write/develop creative, compelling written responses to requests and solicitations.  Superior writing skills, superior proficiency in MS Office programs, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop required.  Degree preferred but education will be evaluated based on career experience supporting the A/E/C industry.  S.B. Survey Technicians – Virginia Beach, VA

We are seeking multiple experienced Survey Technicians to join our Survey Team. Team members will be working with a Land Surveyor and assisting in developing survey databases, boundary, topographic surveys, and construction staking, for our construction projects.  Surveys consist of topographic, boundary, and construction layout to determine the locations of natural and man-made features.  Incumbents must be able to operate survey instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other standard survey equipment to collect field data.  Must also be able to interpret construction plans, perform necessary calculations in the field, and perform construction layout.  Physical requirements for the position are as follow:

  • Ability to work in the outside elements of the field up to 100% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Required to remain standing for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day and walk long distances.
  • Set up, minor maintenance, and operation of all field survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
  • Possess talent to act as a positive representative of the company and its core values.
  • Education/Professional Certifications and Experience required are as follow:
  • Associates, High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior Instrument Operator experience preferred.
  • Familiar with field procedures for performing boundary and topographic surveys.

Superintendent - Loudoun County, VA

Project Manager – Loudoun County, VA

We are seeking experienced Project Managersto join our team to manage our Northern Virginia projects. These projects are two multi-level parking structures with direct access to Loudoun Gateway Metro Station and Ashburn Metro Station. The Project Manager is responsible for driving the project to completion on-time, within budget, while providing an exceptional experience for our owners. Preferred candidates will currently reside within commuting distance of projects.  Incumbent will be responsible for full project ownership including, but not limited to:

  • Coordinate all activities with the Superintendent and project team.
  • Own all project finances
  • Organize, understand, and maintain up-to-date contract documents.
  • Prepare the project construction schedule in conjunction with the Superintendent and required subcontractor input.
  • Coordinate the intent and implementation of the final project budget Issue all subcontracts Prepare a master submittal schedule and submittal log.
  • Schedule and conduct regular owner and subcontractor coordination and preconstruction meetings.
  • Receive, review, document, and administrate the resolution to all project specific issues.
  • Assist the Superintendent in implementation and coordination of SBBCC on-site quality control and safety procedures.
  • Receive, review and process all subcontractor Requests for Information (RFI) and Requests for Proposal (RFP) forms.
  • Prepare, distribute and acquire approval of all Owner Change Order Requests.
  • Prepare and distribute all subcontractor Change Orders and associated budget revisions.
  • Prepare and distribute the monthly Owner Applications for payment.
  • Oversight of all project administrative logs and close-out activities.
  • Drive the importance of a safety-first mindset to everyone touching the project.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects at varying stages within a life cycle.
  • Manage a small team of employees, providing oversight, direction, and mentoring in accordance to SBBCC's policies and procedures.
  • Foster and cultivate a team culture that aligns with SBBCC's mission and values.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years of industry experience, preferably in general contracting.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of Construction estimating, means and methods, accounting, document administration, and a thorough understanding of industry practices.
  • Application of LEED certifications is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience with MS Project and P6.
  • Previous experience managing employees preferred.
  • Some periodic travel may be required.
  • Parking Garage experience a plus.

Quality Control Inspector – Virginia Beach,VA

We are seeking an experienced Quality Control Inspector to join our team.  Successful candidate will have: 

  • 5 to 10 years as an on-site quality control manager for projects ranging between $500,000 and $10,000,000. 
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, submittal review, highly proficient computer skills, ability to do visual inspection of construction activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
    • Highly proficient oral and written communication skills.
    • 4 year college degree in construction management or engineering (preferred)
    • OSHA 30 Hour certification
    • LEED Accreditation (preferred)

Superintendent - Fort Lee

S.B. Ballard Construction Company, a leading General Contractor/Construction Manager servicing the Mid-Atlantic region, headquartered in Virginia Beach VA has an immediate requirement for an experienced Superintendent to join our team for a project located in Fort Lee, VA. Incumbent will lead all the on-site activities required throughout the construction process to successfully deliver a project on time and within budget. Currently we are focusing our search on candidates residing within commuting distance of Fort Lee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Has the independent responsibility to manage all field activities for small and medium sized projects of normal complexity.
  • Ensures the proper performance of all subcontractors in both quality and timeliness of their work.
  • Perform and coordinate all duties in conjunction with the duties of the Project Manager.
  • Perform all project start-up and close-out activities.
  • Thoroughly understand, organize, and maintain all project contract documents on a regular basis.
  • Assist the Project Manager with preparation of the project construction schedule in conjunction with input from the required Subcontractors.
  • Manage the schedule to timely and successful completion.
  • Coordinate implementation of the final project budget with the Project Manager.
  • Co-conduct a Subcontractor pre-construction meeting with the Project Manager to review all SBBCC and project-specific requirements.
  • Co-conduct regular Subcontractor coordination meetings with the Project Manager.
  • Prepare and distribute all necessary project administrative documents including, but not limited to: daily reports, 3-week look ahead schedule, incident reports, safety inspection reports, material delivery tickets, investigation reports, etc.
  • Identify and resolve all on-site project-specific issues in conjunction with the Project Manager and escalate the necessary issues up to the appropriate person.
  • Implement and enforce all required SBBCC on-site Quality Control procedures.
  • Implement and enforce all required SBBCC on-site Safety procedures.
  • Ability to secure access to military facility.
