With every new project, we build community. We love to see people use and enjoy our finished work, and it’s important for the Ballard team to remain engaged.
For Stephen B. Ballard, giving back is a passion, and while we’ve participated in hundreds of events and initiatives over the years, four partnerships stand out:
- Pancreatic Cancer Action Network – We sponsor the annual PurpleStride 5K, which raises money for pancreatic cancer research.
- The Special Olympics – We organize an event every April for special-needs students at Norfolk public schools called “Tiny Feet Meet.” Held at S.B. Ballard Stadium at Old Dominion University, students compete in various adaptive-movement competitions like javelin throw, ring toss and finding their way through a maze.
- Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance – We sponsor the annual Lei Day 5K in support of research on Freidreich’s Ataxia, a rare inherited disease that causes nervous system damage and movement problems.
- Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters – We have provided longtime support for the premier children’s hospital in Hampton Roads so doctors and nurses can continue their life-saving work.
In addition, Stephen B. Ballard established the S.B. Ballard Dream Fund in 2014 to help employees and subcontractors achieve their goals. Each year, the Dream Fund provides a monetary award of up to $5,000 to fulfill a dream (ex: pursue studies, travel outside the country or visit long-separated family).
Note: The Dream Fund is not designed for emergency use or for job-related professional development. Interested employees and subcontractors may apply for the Dream Fund award in late winter or early spring. More information is available in internal communications.
