S.B. Ballard Construction Company Turns 40
Today, S.B. Ballard Construction Company proudly celebrates its 40th Anniversary as one of the Mid-Atlantic’s leading General Contractors.
Stephen B. Ballard laid the foundation for a career in construction on familiar ground: in his own house. Working from home, Stephen began S.B. Ballard Construction Company by completing small projects for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority and minor renovations for their neighbors.
In those formative years, the emphasis was on concrete contracting. Before long S.B. Ballard was one of the largest concrete contractors in the nation working on projects such as the Baltimore Aquarium, MacArthur Mall and the Miami Intermodal Center.
That success led Stephen to expand into the role of General Contracting. Owners knew Stephen’s word and handshake were his bond. The skill of S.B. Ballard and its attention to detail created the trust that turns small companies into large ones.
Serving a wide range of sectors, S.B. Ballard has provided new and renovated facilities for ten different college campuses, four branches of the military, numerous k-12 school districts and many state and local private businesses.
Around Hampton Roads, where it all began, S.B. Ballard’s accomplishments include some of the region’s most prominent structures such as the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center, Kellam High School, Brown Hall at Norfolk State University, and the Ted Constant Convocation Center and S.B. Ballard Football Stadium at Old Dominion University and most recently; five new elementary schools for the City of Norfolk. Projects such as the Virginia Beach Seawall have helped change the landscape for businesses throughout the region.
Over the years, hundreds of projects have been completed and numerous awards have been earned, but the two factors that Stephen B. Ballard is most proud of are his employees and the impact S.B. Ballard Construction Company has had on the communities in which we live and work in.
With over a dozen employees that have worked at S.B. Ballard Construction for over 20 years and an additional handful of employees that have worked for over 30 years, there is truly a standard for loyalty at S.B. Ballard Construction. Over the last forty years, Stephen B. Ballard, has contributed and partnered with organizations such as the Special Olympics, Education Foundations, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, and ORPHANetwork.
S.B. Ballard is honored to have had the opportunity to serve the Mid-Atlantic region and looks forward to another forty years!
