This was a 9-story cast-in-place concrete structure with a structural steel operations cab on the top floor. The tower is situated on an active airfield about 40 feet from the tower currently in use. The second floor of the tower has a pedestrian passageway which leads from the Air Operations Command Center to the Control Tower. The 7th floor has an observation deck of concrete construction supported by concrete beams which span the width of the tower. The top of the cab is approximately 134 feet high. The walls were constructed using Symons Steel Forms, the observation deck used a cantilever form system and was suspended by cable from the 9th floor platform. The Navy personnel worked closely with our Superintendent so that both construction and jet traffic could continue without impacting one another.
This project also contained sitework and landscaping, electrical and mechanical utilities, heating, ventilation, fire protection, air conditioning, a UPS system, an elevator, and incidental related work.
