Located on the campus of Old Dominion University, University Village opened in two phases with the first being in Fall of 2003 and the second in the Fall of 2004. Phase I consisted of four three-story buildings encompassing 178,116 square feet in housing with 20, 248 square feet in retail, offices and common/multi-purpose spaces. Phase II is comprised of six three-story buildings containing 236,552 square feet of housing and 30,372 square feet in retail. Both phases total 455,499 square feet.
The buildings have a high-quality collegiate/suburban look compatible with the architectural character of the main campus and the city of Norfolk. Totaling 960 beds in 278 apartment-style units, the one bedroom/ one bath, and four bedroom/two bath floor plans are designed for single occupancy and range in size from 599 to 1,254 square feet. The retail component includes a university police substation, a fitness center, and additional retail spaces that will enhance the vision of making University Village a pedestrian-friendly mall.
The buildings are wood framed with a compliment of natural brick and colored exterior insulated finish systems on the exterior. The floors are concrete on metal deck. Architectural trim features and detail elements were created with the use of contrasting brick and stucco. Building interiors include laundry facilities, vending, retail, check in counter, administrative offices, lodging with thermostats in each room, telephone system, internet and cabling.
