At the Intersection of Healthcare and Innovation
Changing the landscape of the Eastern Virginia Medical School campus and our region’s health, a new building at the corner of Brambleton and Colley avenues. Scheduled to open in 2020, this new academic center will be a vital hub for the collaborative work that defines our distinctive approach to medicine, and support the next generation of leadership and growth at EVMS.
The new EVMS Education & Academic Administration Building (Waitzer Hall) will expand capacity and consolidate existing spaces for teaching, study, student support and administrative workplace. The building is intended to house the primary classroom spaces for first and second year Medical School (M1, M2) and Medical Masters students, as well as additional space for the growing programs of the School of Health Professions. The classrooms are designed to EVMS instructional standard of team-based learning (TBL). In lieu of a traditional lecture format, TBL is an active learning format that emphasizes collaborative student work in small groups of six to eight, to solve problems. In addition, students will have access to a variety of group and individual study spaces adjacent to these Classrooms.
