JMU Village Student Housing (Phase 1)

The Village Student Housing Project Phase 1 is the beginning of a multi‐phase project to replace the nine exiting separate buildings in the Village Area with larger facilities over multiple biennia. This first phase includes the demolition of the existing three‐story, 205-bed Ikenberry Hall and the construction of a five-story, 463-bed, 117,000 SF residence hall over the existing building footprint. The building accommodates a variety of living choices including single and double rooms.

This timelapse video captures construction work on the Village Student Housing Project Phase 1 beginning with the demolition of the old Ikenberry Hall (May 2023 – September 2023), followed by site work in preparation for construction of the new residence hall (September 2023 – November 2023), followed by vertical construction of the new 5-story residence hall (November 2023 – January 2025). As of February 2025, most of the building’s exterior work is now complete and the project team is focused on the build-out of the interior spaces. Work is proceeding on-schedule and the new residence hall is expected to be completed this Summer and ready to receive new students for the Fall 2025 Semester.
