Virginia State University is embarking on a transformative housing initiative designed to enhance the student living experience and support the university’s strategic growth. The New Student Housing Project—located adjacent to the existing Quad I and Quad II residence halls on Boisseau Street—will deliver a modern, vibrant residential community that reflects VSU’s ongoing commitment to student life, academic success, and campus renewal.
This state-of-the-art development will add approximately 423 new beds and span an 110,200 SQ FT, increasing the university’s total housing capacity and offering contemporary, amenity-rich living environments tailored to the needs of today’s students. The design will feature suite-style rooms, common lounges, study areas, and integrated community spaces—creating an environment that supports both academic and social development.
Delivered through an aggressive Design-Build schedule, the project is on track for occupancy in April 2026, aligned with the Fall semester. The design-build team will incorporate early release packages to ensure timely delivery of long-lead items, helping the university avoid delays and remain on schedule.
Beyond increasing capacity, the project is central to VSU’s vision of a thriving, student-centered campus. By reducing reliance on off-campus housing and improving the quality of residential life, the new facility will help VSU recruit and retain students while reinforcing its role as a premier historically Black university in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
