A leader in sustainable construction
At SBBCC, we follow all rules and recommendations from the U.S. Green Building Council and other groups that encourage green practices in construction by using renewable resources when possible to improve a building’s performance and keep costs down. We also work within the standards set by LEED™ to ensure building certification. We speak “LEED” and have been awarded many certifications, including the highly-coveted platinum designation. We integrate green products and practices used by our clients, designers and consultants.
We also provide ongoing education for our staff and subcontractors and promote the study of new techniques, which allows us to create buildings in sync with the environment as well as the owner’s needs.
Going Above and Beyond
Radford University (CHBS), LEED™ Gold Certified
The new 143,600 square-foot College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences Building houses all of the college’s academic units, as well as the Dean’s office. The CHBS building is the largest academic building on campus.
The state-of-the-art space features a 90-seat tiered classroom, multiple collaborative learning spaces for student use, offices and research spaces for faculty and staff use, and the CHBS Advising Center. It also houses a mock trial/moot courtroom, a professional quality broadcast studio, digital video and audio editing facilities, a forensic laboratory, and an Emergency Operations Center.
Contracted to be LEED™ Silver Certified, SBBCC went above and beyond the scope to achieve LEED™ Gold certification.
