On March 2, 2023, SB Ballard had their Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Roanoke Readiness Center. The Roanoke Readiness Center is generally described as a 24,347 gross square-foot (GSF), permanent building construction specially designed to serve as a National Guard Readiness Center. In addition to the building construction, the facility will include a backup/emergency generator, rigid pavement for operations, a detached facility sign, and a heating plant. Part B of the project is Virginia State-funded and includes the renovation of Building 3 into equipment storage, vaults, a loading dock, a weapons cleaning room, and other space to support the Readiness Center. Part B also includes new construction support space which is contiguous with the construction of the Readiness Center, and includes the Assembly Hall and supporting Kitchen, as well as the Family Readiness office suite. In addition to the building construction, the facility will include site utility improvements, site grading, personal vehicle parking lot, perimeter road improvements, security fence improvements, site sidewalks, and rigid paving. The Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS) is generally described as a 16,966 GSF, permanent building construction specially designed to serve the Virginia Army National Guard’s operations by maintaining vehicles and equipment. The facility will include unpaved organizational vehicle parking, rigid pavement for operations, a loading dock area, security fencing, controlled waste facility, flammable materials facility, bulk POL storage, and enclosed unheated storage.
