A Topping Out celebration was held October 16th at SBBCC’s James Madison University Student Housing project on the campus of JMU.
Topping Out (also referred to as “Topping Off”) is a longstanding tradition in construction where the owner and the construction team celebrate an important project milestone in the construction of a building. Traditionally, this ceremony occurs when the final structural beam is raised into place, completing the building’s frame. These events are a testament to the collaborative efforts of architects, builders, owners, and various stakeholders who bring buildings to life.
The significance of the Topping Out celebration/tradition traces back to ancient Scandinavian rituals. However, over the last few centuries, this custom has evolved and is celebrated in diverse ways across cultures and continents.
Congratulations to the men and women working hard on this important project – this is certainly a milestone worth celebrating!
