The Tidewater Community College Visual Arts Center will be an immersive and collaborative art and design space for the growing visual arts program at TCC. The VAC will contribute to the street-level vibrancy of Downtown and nearby NEON District by providing public views into photography, graphic design, and drawing studios.
The TCC Visual Arts Center prioritizes student learning by locating art studios along the exterior to receive natural light. Faculty offices are on the interior, adjacent to their studios and classrooms, to encourage collaboration between students and faculty. The curriculum includes painting, drawing, sculpture, 3D design, graphic design, photography, printmaking, ceramics, and fusing. Supported programming includes: exhibition space for visiting artists, student gallery, multipurpose room, humidity-controlled permanent collection storage, work area for gallery staff, catering kitchenette to support exhibition opening nights, large conference room to be shared with the TCC Norfolk campus, general classroom for growth, and a student portfolio work room and print lab.
