Sure, students have been attending classes, but the new J.R. Tucker High School isn’t really, truly, officially open until the ribbon has been cut!
That happened Wednesday, September 15,2021.
Congrats, Tigers, on your new home!
Watch Henrico County Public Schools Footage of the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new J.R. Tucker High School, as the Superintendent, County Manager, Henrico’s school board, board of supervisors and other invited guests paid tribute to the next generation of Tigers!

Check out the first day of school as HCPS welcomed back their students and staff to the brand NEW Jr Tucker High School campus:
The old J.R. Tucker, which was just demolished weeks ago, was built in 1962 and had not seen a renovation since. In recent weeks, workers have been putting the finishing touches on the brand new school, and when the school opened to students Sept. 8 the Tigers were greeted with some amazing, light-filled new spaces. The new school features state of the art technology including a wall-to-wall learning board, a gym where the entire student body can fit, an outdoor amphitheater for classes and much more taking the learning environment from the 1960’s to the 2020’s! Crews are still working to finish up punch list items, the auditorium and the new football stadium.
