Waller, Todd & Sadler, Woolpert, and S.B. Ballard Participated on the $27 million, 63,000-square-foot project for the Virginia Beach Department of Public Works
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 7, 2019) — The Virginia Beach Housing Resource Center has been awarded the 2019 American Public Works Association (APWA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter Project of the Year Award in the $25 to $75 million structures category.
The new $27 million, 63,000-square-foot facility is one of the first of its type to use a consolidated campus-style approach to serve different housing groups within one building and provide multi-layered services to clients with coordinated assessment and case management on-site.
Waller, Todd & Sadler and Woolpert collaborated on the project, with Woolpert providing the civil engineering services, while Waller, Todd & Sadler served as the architect of record. S.B. Ballard Construction Company was the contractor.
“The S.B. Ballard team shares in the pride with our partners in this project. With this recognition, the Housing Resource Center should rightfully be seen by the Hampton Roads Community as a model for other similar facilities to follow,” said Steve Ballard.
The Housing Resource Center, completed in 2018, is the first of its kind in South Hampton Roads. The facility includes shelter, housing, a health clinic, cafeteria, learning facility, supportive services, and community resources. It’s a one-stop-shop of services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
“We couldn’t be more proud to have had a hand in this life-changing facility,” added Mr. Ballard.
